Head of Hadrian in "Marmo Nero Marquina". Italy. Late 17th century.
The head of the emperor Hadrian carved out of black marble with white veins and speckles or “Marmo Nero Marquina”. The face is depicted in a very realistic manner. The hair is beautifully detailed and carved in the same way as on antique Roman busts, where they drill holes (with a hand drill) to give the hair more depth. The pedestal base is also antique but not original to be bust.
Italy. Late 17th century.
Dimensions: total height 35,5cm ; height of the head 26cm
