Pair of solid silver & lapis lazuli travel altars - Venice 2nd half 16th century

A very rare pair of solid silver & lapis lazuli miniature travel altars with a representation of Saint James the Elder and Saint Matthew. Both saints are depicted seated underneath a columned arch or "portico" against a background in lapis lazuli. Below their names are engraved on phylacteries : "ST. JACOBUS MR (major)" and "ST. MATHAEUS". Venice. 2nd half of the 16th century. Dimensions (each) : height 10,5cm ; width 6,5cm ; depth 2,5cm
