Christ preaching before a stormy, threatening sky.
Oil on canvas.School of Ferrara, in the circle of G.Francesco Barbieri, circa 1620.
Beautiful 17th century frame mecca gilt wood
He seems to be sitting, pointing his index, pointing to something or to someone.
The left hand is stretched, the fingers half folded.
We do not know if we must see here a symbolism in the gestures of the Christ, especially since it appears to address himself to a person or to an assembly.
Yet nothing says that the painting could have been shortened by the right (original canvas sewn by the middle back).
Inventory number 843 on the back.
