Archaic memento mori in porous ston Medieval 13th/14th C.

An archaic "memento mori" in the form of a human skull, carved out of porous stone highlighted with black paint. To the back there is a worn out suspension hole, which indicates that this skull was most likely suspended in a church or chapel. Southern France (Pyrenees). Medieval. Circa 13th/14th century. Dimensions: height (with stand) 18cm ; height (of the skull) 14cm Mounted on a modern metal stand.
