he appeared at the Salon des Artistes Français where he was awarded many times.
He especially sought to achieve an integration of all the arts in an ornamentalist spirit. With his friend Emile Gallé and Louis Majorelle, he contributed to the creation of the decorative style of the Nancy School, in the more general context of the "Art Nouveau".
He became president of the school of Nancy at the death of Emile Gallé in 1904.
He will take over the direction of Nancy School of Fine Arts from 1919 to 1940
