Sgrafitto: a technique widely used in the Renaissance consisting of applying two coats of paint and scratching the top layer to reveal the patterns. On our tabernacle the gilding is covered with a black paint on which following the scratching appears the drawing. This is how we got golden scrolls on a black background.
Punchwork: a technique consisting of dotting a pattern / decoration with a pointed object.
