Late 19th Century Nautilus Cup After Balthasar Permoser et Bernhard Quippe
Exquisit gilt and patinated bronze cup featuring a faun holding up a nautilus shell on his shoulders. The shell is richly decorated with vine branches, acanthus leaves and satyr head. It is topped with a fantastic animal. The cup is set on a black marble base. Very good vintage condition.
The original model was created by Balthasar Permoser (1651-1732) and Bernhard Quipp (1662-1722), in 1707. It is on display at the Grünes Gewölbe Dresden.
