Marble Bust Auguste Imperator XVII century

This bust represents Augustus. Shortly after the assassination of his great-uncle, Julius Caesar, Augustus became his adopted son. To defeat the assassins of the latter, he founded the Second Triumvirate, with Mark Antony and Lepidus, and shares with them, after their victory, the territories of the Roman Republic. Auguste finds himself alone at the head of the Roman Empire, after the sending in exile of Lepidus and the suicide of Marc Antoine.
Our sculpture represents Augustus in the prime of life and demonstrates his determination. His face expresses a certain interiority, and the treatment of his bust, strength and vigor. With the beginning of the reign of Augustus, Pax romana begins, period of stability well illustrated by the quiet force of this portrait.
