Oval box in brown tortoiseshell, intricately sculpted with a sunburst motif. The hinged lid is set to open two-thirds of the box. An enamel medallion is set on the lid, framed in gold and inlaid with pearls. The miniature on the enamel represents the goddess Diane, the huntress, shown here with her symbols. Her white and yellow tunic leaves her right breast exposed. She is lifting her arm to place a flowering branch in her hair, which is ornamented with a crescent moon diadem. A quiver with arrows is attached to her back.
