Regence Period Hunting Decor Console

Console Regency period, carved and gilded oak, resting on four arched feet with staples, garlands of flowers and inverted arch, joined by a spacer decorated with a dog capturing a bird. The fully openwork crossbow belt is decorated in its central part with a cartouche in which two doves are inscribed in an environment of clouds, flowers and foliated sticks.
Superb marble green marble molded plate with beak of corbin.

The making of this console is exceptional, as much by the quality of its sculpture and its materials as by the rarity of its subject.

The marble chosen is a green marble called "vert de mer", rare and very expensive. This marble, extracted in the Alps, decorates the windows of the Palace of Versailles, the panels of the bridge of La Concorde, the pillars of Saint-Sulpice church or the columns of the cathedral of Florence. It will be widely chosen for faux marble paintings in the 19th century, because of this prestigious image (J. Monneret, "Le Triomphe Du Trompe-L’œil - Histoire Du Trompe-L'œil Dans La Peinture Occidentale Du VIe Siècle Avant J.-C. À Nos Jours", Salon des Independants / Grand Palais, Paris, 1993, 287 p.).

Regarding the sculpture, its four feet are entirely pierced, responding to the belt, rare feature requiring a great mastery of the architecture of the furniture, and to highlight the movement of the drawing, the vegetable nature of the ornamentation, as well as to infuse rhythm and nervousness.
The belt is composed of a very beautiful decoration around its central cartouche symbolizing the union or the love, the curved sides adorned with wings in windings of flowers.
The four uprights are joined by a spacer forming a hillock with a hunting scene composed of a dog stopping a bird in a forest landscape.

Great Parisian work.
