The painting reveals typological and formal characteristics derived from the North European tradition of the 16th century, showing a particular affinity with the works of the Flemish painter Quentin Massys.
For example, one can observe the painting with the same subject and currently preserved in Venice, in the Ducal Palace, and in particular the character of the face of Christ.
Compared to these models, the panel in question shows a more solid performance, and thicker mixtures of color, which point towards a meeting rather late, towards the end of the XVIe century.
The work is enriched by an important frame tabernacle gilded wood and worked in low relief, later period.
