The work comes from the collection of Etienne Duval (1824-1914), Genevan painter, son of François Duval (1776-1854); grandson of Wolfgang-Adam Töpffer (1766-1847), painter and draftsman from Geneva; nephew of Rodolphe Töpffer (1799-1846), one of the founding fathers of comics
