Pair of small vases in Vienna enamel set in silver. The baluster-shaped vases on pedestal are adorned with two aviform handles accented with green enamel. On the collar and base of each vase is a polychromatic decoration of angel and grotesque faces on a pink background.. The bodies of the vases are decorated with mythological scenes related to matrimonial love.
These pieces are representative of the taste of the Historicism that develops in Vienna in the second half of the nineteenth century. Thus, the taste of objects of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries develops. Many enamelled shaped pieces appear. These pieces are strongly influenced by the Renaissance and the taste of cabinets of curiosities or rooms of wonders in vogue in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
