Bishop in linden, carved in ronde bosse circa 1520-1530.
Standing, his face slightly bowed, he is wearing his miter and wearing a long dress and a loose coat falling cascading broken folds.
He seems to hold in his left hand a small anvil which allows to attribute it to St Eloi, patron of goldsmiths, blacksmiths and blacksmiths. Saint Eloi carries two rings in his left hand, the episcopal ring and the pastoral ring.
His face, with expressive features, is of great finesse.
Time circa 1520-1530
Our wink: The episcopal ring is one of the attributes of the episcopal charge; it symbolizes the engagement of the bishop with the church. The pastoral ring represents the link that unites the bishop with his diocese. The name of this ring reminds us that the bishop plays a role of pastor for the faithful.
