French Louis XV-period cartel d'alcôve, circa 1750 signed JULIEN LEROY.
Finely gilt case, with powerful scrolls, flowers and leaves. Enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer black five minute markings,
foliate pierced and finely engraved gilt hands. Movement similarly signed.
Chevalier de Béthune ecsapement, with pull- wind quarter strike on one silvered bell. Autonomy 2 weeks.
JULIEN LEROY was born in 1686 and died in 1759. Made Master in 1713, he was appointed "Clockmaker to the King" in 1739.
