Furniture and Works of Art from the 17th, 18th and early 19th century
Flat desk mahogany double box on each side of central part. The feet are fluted and finished with golden bronze shoes.
The Louis XVI style desks are very strict in their lines and sometimes have a gilded bronze ornamentation, usually light but elegant and often with falls of fleurons or console.
Nicolas Petit (1732 - 1791)
A cabinetmaker who lived in the main street of the Faubourg Saint Antoine in 1758 when he married Madeleine Dignoir, he was awarded a master's degree in 1761.
Widowed, he remarried in 1766 and became a cabinetmaker with great success. His premises are imposing, he subcontracts with a number of his colleagues, and offers a very large selection of furniture.
The workshop is made up of 17 people and more than 700 pieces of furniture will be inventoried in 1791 at the time of his death.
Among these we note the presence of 16 flat desks including 5 mahogany. The price of an office was 144 pounds.
