Attic red figured oinochoe. c. 440-430 B.C. Workshop of the Schuvalov P.

The very refined and rare shape of this beautifully glazed oinochoe (TYPE Va) is a typical example of the high-quality pieces produced by the workshop of the Schuvalov Painter in the second part of the 5th century B.C. The minimalist pattern composed of a band of myrtle leaves and flowers around the shoulder with a band of ovolos around the lip emphases the simple elegance of the piece.
A misfired area, otherwise good conditionA very close vase with quite the same pattern is in the Spinelli collection in Naples (Cf. Lezzi-Hafter, Der Schuwalow-Maler, Sfs 4, p. 115 (Schwartzgefirnisste und Ornamentierte Vasen
