An Ivory Tusk Vase

Very nice vase made in a tusk with a gold lacquer decoration of a shishi (mythical lion) holding in its paws the wheel of the law or wheel of Dharma. The lacquered decoration of peonies, bamboos and prunus as well as the animal of cranes, birds, hinds and butterflies in a lacustrine landscape surrounds the whole vase in a very elegant and refined way. The vase, without bottom, is glued on a wooden base with floral decoration.
