Rare Pair of Silver Vases in Shibayama Inlaid by Masatsugu

Pair of silver baluster vases with 6 lobes on the belly and floral and animal decoration on a base of gold lacquer. The shibayama decor inlaid with mother-of-pearl, ivory and coral of birds alternating with baskets of flowers and shrubs. The collar and lobed feet are also decorated with floral motifs with polychrome enamels. The ensounding lobe frame is adorned with elephant heads in silver and embossed on the shoulder. Signature under the base in a golden cartouche: Masatsugu. Height: 24,5cm. Meiji period (1868-1912) late 19th century. Excellent condition except an old restoration, a barely visible silver solder.
