Satinwood Secretary Desk

This is a lemonwood and amaranth wood plated secretary desk that has one drawer, one flap, and two winged cabinets that all open towards the front. When the flap is opened, it reveals eight drawers, two little compartments, and one large shelf. When the winged cabinets are opened, there is a shelf, a chest, and two drawers. The angular/rectangular handles embellish the drawer that is at the top of the secretary desk. Also, a bronze border underlines the drawer which levels out the proportions of the secretary desk while making it dynamic.
The secretary desk is also perfectly rectangular and having the corners stick out makes it again, even more dynamic.
The two front half-moon rounded corners are decorated by large brass fluting. The “brettée” can be found just above the fluting.
The secretary desk is topped off with a “brocatelle d’Espagne” and has a brass openwork gallery that wraps around the top. It stands on four feet that are in the shape of a spinning top and are made out of amaranth wood. The tips of the feet are decorated with bronze and have an ornamental ring around them that is gadrooned.

This secretary desk is part of a set that includes a commode in which both pieces have identical decoration.
