Saint-Jean (St. John area) is a district of Geneva, located not far from downtown, downstream from the outlet of Lake Geneva. Saint-Jean is on a cliff and a plateau, along the right bank of the Rhone. The name of this quarter comes from the former priory of Saint-Jean-de-Genève, erected in the 12th century and destroyed in 1535, during the Reformation.
