Japan, lacquer inro with fans, Kajikawa, Edo period, early 19th century

Folding fans with their varied paterns appear in the decoration of Japanese lacquerware as early as the Kamakura period (1185 1333). The decoration of this inro consists of 6 Japanese folding fans aranged on a black lacquer ground, each fan presenting a different little landscape.
There are some very tiny deffect and rubbings as you can see on the pictures. The signature is partially rubbed but recognizable of Kajikawa with Kakihan ( red vase seal).
Alexander G. Moslé, The Moslé collection (1933) Vol 11 p55 N°1749, published an other inro by Kajikawa with a decor of fans.
10 x 5 x3 cm.
Japan, Edo period, early 19th c.
