This painting was attributed to Niccolò Stanchi by Professor Giancarlo Sestieri (Rome).
The workshop of Stanchi, Giovanni, Niccolò and Angelo, was one of the most fervent workshop specialized in the genre of still lifes in Rome since 1630, sought by the most important aristocratic families, the Colonna, the Chigi, the Rospigliosi , and present since the end of the century in the collections of the Medici.
Niccolò Stanchi works in Rome for most of the seventeenth century; He has produced works for the Palazzo Borghese in Rome, executed in 1675 in collaboration with Ciro Ferri. Then there is the couple with garlands of flowers in the Pinacoteca Capitolina, and a series of six small paintings of Niccolò documented for Cardinal Flavio Chigi, who now belongs to the Pallavicini family.
State of object
Like most works produced by Stanchi's hand, our flower composition is distinguished by its brilliant colors and perfect preservation, no doubt facilitated by the most commonly used materials. This is undoubtedly the reason for the success achieved by his workshop during five decades of flourishing activity.
