Great Winged Angel - Venetian school of the 16th century

Venetian school of the second half of the 16th century
Large angel with wings explained

oil on canvas
cm 124 x 88
with frame 152 x 116

Great beauty and high quality oil painting on canvas, belonging to the Venetian figurative environment of the second half of the sixteenth century, depicting an angel with his hands crossed on his chest and wings spread out in flight.

The painting was realized by a painter, who certainly referred to the activity of the Venetian Jacopo Palma il Giovane (Venice, 1550 - 1628), author of a large altarpiece in which the same subject of our fabric is often inserted.

The angel has a very eloquent gesture with his hands crossed on his chest, a sign of prayer and respect; is wrapped in a rich robe decorated with embroidery and inserts in precious stones, with a floating robe enveloping her face.

Even the wings, as well as the rest of the figure, are treated with great meticulousness, with fine strokes, under the deduction of individual feathers.

The soft and luminous colors adapt perfectly to the golden background, which can be exalted by the changing effects of light.

As in works of this period, the study of luminosity and its effects are in fact the protagonists of the representation.

The work may have been part of a more complex structure, such as the completion of an Annunciation.

CONSERVATION: The painting has been professionally cleaned and repainted and is in very good condition. Complete with a lacquered and golden frame.

The works sold are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and iconographic description.
