Antique French Sterling Silver Vegetable Dish, by Béchard (Orléans 1782-84)

Rare French sterling silver covered serving dish/tureen/vegetable dish, from Louis XVI period.

With a circular shape, it has two fused and welded handles, in the form of natural branches whose fasteners end in foliage. Its cover, wich has a border with a molding, has a broad groove with interlaced "GL" letters. On the terrace is a radiant pattern of foliage girdled with a frieze of silver beads strung on a cord of the same, bearing in the center a fruit-shaped button enclosed in leaves.

French marks : MO, charge Orleans 1781-1789 (crosnes R), Orléans Jurande 1780-1782 (O crowned, a clover, two "grains de remède"), discharge.

Weight : 1,94 pounds

Note :
This very rare vegetable is to be compared to a covered bowl and its lid preserved in the Historical and Archaeological Museum of Orléanais, which has a similar structure but without the frieze of silver pearls.
