Inro Japanese gold urushi lacquer. Legend of the 10th century showing the history of Ibaraki-doji & Watanabe No tsuna. The inro is showing the battle between the Oni named Ibarakidoji and the samouraï named Tsuna. Tsuna cut off the arm of the Oni during the battle and keep it with him as a trophy. A day, an old woman, looking like his unt, came to visit him and during a conversation, asks him how was the battle and how he fought the Oni. Tsuna, not suspicious decides to show her the arm of the Oni. At this moment, the unt turns into Ibarakidoji, takes his arm and runs away. Japan EDO 17th century.
