Two Angels Singing and Playing Lute and Harp - Spain, Early 17th Century

Beautiful pair of early Baroque angels singing and playing lute and harp.
Walnut carved, polychrome painting, gilding and sgraffito technique simulating precious richly decorated embroidery. Height approx. 68 cm.

Spain, early 17th century.

These angels would originally have stood on the corners of an elaborated large altarpiece, as free standing figures surrounding central reliefs or painting from the life of Christ and the Saints.
