Helmet of the 45th line infantry regiment, type 1836, monarchy of july (1836-1837).

In 1835, the Minister of War had asked the infantry corps for their advice on the hairstyle to be adopted. The regiments proposed in 1836 a series of different models of shakos. The 44th and 45th line infantry regiments received a leather helmet with plate and crest. This hairstyle was short-lived. The reports made by the two regiments had been entirely contradictory: the 44th regiment found the helmet heavy and inconvenient, while the 45th was favorable to its adoption. In its meeting of 27 May 1837 the Committee of Infantry and Cavalry, on the basis of contradictory conclusions, expressed the opinion that the Shako should continue to serve as a headdress for troops on foot. Full black patent leather leather helmet. Roman bomb, depth 14 cm, H 18 cm with visor and neck cover. Visor and neck cover in black patent leather with leather rim bent over the outside and sewn. Width of the visor 6 cm, of the neck cover 4 cm. The top of the crest is covered with a molded leather part in the form of a braid; It is embellished at the front of a pompon with flame daffodil wool. Front cockade, fixed under the mask of the crest, in leather molded in relief of a radiant sun, lacquered tricolor, diameter 6,4 cm.
