A ‘bureau plat’ or writing table dating from around 1750 with arched legs and sides. The elegant gilt bronze fittings protect the edges and at the same time accentuate them. The table has three drawers at the front and three mock drawers at the back.
Writing tables like these were designed to stand in the middle of a room and not against the wall. Therefore the table has finely finished veneer on all sides.
Attributed to Pierre Roussel (1723-1782)
