Attic red figured lekythos attributed to the Palermo 4 Painter

Athens, circa 470 BC
Orange clay
High : 18 cm
Some retouches on the painting, otherwise intact

This fine red figured lekythos is ornated with a young woman standing in front of a kalathos (wool basket) and holding a mirror in her left hand. She wears an himation ornated with a frize of patterns « oxoxox » on a chiton and a sakkos on her head. In the field, an alabastron hanging on the wall. Under the scene, a cross hatched frize.
The Painter of Palermo 4 is an attic classical painter showing a strong influence of the Berlin Painter, depicting single figures on a black ground.
