The entrance of pope Paulus Quintus in Rome - - Louis de Caullery (1555-1622)

Louis de Caullery (Cambrai 1555 – 1622 Antwerp)
The painting was made before Bernini added the famous colonnades to the St. Peter's Square between 1656 and 1667. And was painted after 1614. Because by that time Maderno's new facade was completed. There are many paintings by Caullery of the basilica. The second enclosed picture depicts the basilica's facade before it was transformed to Maderno's design and can be dated around 1600. This picture is part of Petit Palais' main collection.
