Diminutive size apothecary jar for "A. FUMARIA", Rouen 18th century

A rare diminutive size apothecary jar in "faience" or tin-glazed earthenware, decorated with a typical blue foliage pattern and flowers at the back that are heightened with a bit of yellow and ochre. The front is inscribed in manganese with the contents of the jar "A.FUMARIA", which is a herbaceous annual flowering plant in the poppy family and traditionally thought to be good for the eyes and to remove skin blemishes.

Rouen. 18th century.
