Gold and pink enamel case for wax, end of the 18th century

Gold, cylindrical case for wax with pink enamel panels. Intricate geometric patterns are etched in the gold and covered with translucent enamel that leaves the pattern visible. The panels are framed with floral motifs. The upper part is decorated with a floral motif and highlighted with enamel.

This type of case was used to store a stick of wax that would be melted and then pressed to create seals. A coat of arms consisting of a shield decorated with a lion and topped with a helmet is still present on the end of the case.
