Santa Caterina - Attributed to Gian Giacomo Sementi (1583 - 1640)
The painting depicts a beautiful portrait of St. Catherine, depicted as a beautiful and elegant young woman crowned, dressed in rich clothes from silk fabrics, which at her knees, her hands clasped on her breast, turns her pleading look towards the sky.
The iconographic and stylistic reference of this painting must be recognized in the Bolognese school of the prolific workshop of Guido Reni; In particular the work should be attributed to Gian Giacomo Sementi (Bologna 1583 - Rome 1640), one of his most gifted pupils, who was to have a leading role in the workshop head to Reni.
