Pilot gendarm of the guard of the military house of the king

Pilot gendarm of the guard of the military house of the king, model 1763, former monarchy. Canon on the model of cavalry 1733-1734 with five sides in thunder then round, registered number "46", length shortened to 27 cm (the original length of regulation was 31 cm), with slight stall to the tail of breech, Length with cylinder head tail 32.8 cm. Originally, on the upper panel of the cannon is engraved "Gendarmes de la Garde", inscription which disappeared on the copy that we present. Walnut frame on the model of cavalry pistols 1733 but with a decoration in pinnacle platinum, counter-plate, tail of breech and channel of stick. All brass fittings on the model of the 1755 Body Guard pistols, except for the back of the counterplate which ends in a rounded shape. The oval of the handle of the butt is engraved with the emblem of the Gendarmes of the Guard with the thunderbolts falling from the sky. Platinum model 1754 signed by Stephan entrepreneur Simon Jourjon (who commissioned 1753 for the Gendarmes de la Garde) with decoration of engraving and small foliage at the throat of the dog and the back of the body; It bears the punch of Saint-Etienne "SE" under crown and a "B" punch of the controller Bonnaud. Wooden stick not of the model. Total length of the gun: 45 cm. Caliber: 18 mm. Very good state of conservation, steel parts with oxidation of use. La France. Former Monarchy. NOTE: This copy, although shortened and having lost its cannon print, is identical to the copy of the collections of the Museum of the Army and that of the collection Ariès. It is a rare example because the complement of the Gendarmes de la Garde company is 210 cavaliers reduced to about 50 horsemen from 1775 according to the measures taken by Saint Germain, company suppressed in 1787. In 1746 and 1747, Gendarmes receive the rifle. In 1763, the pistols were ordered to the contractors Simon Jourjon; Order completed in 1775 by 50 additional pairs to the sieur La Tuilerie.
