Universal equatorial sundial signed by Edmund Culpeper

This universal equatorial sundial is characterized by an octogonal plate in gilt brass, supported by three small silver legs.

It contains a richly engraved compass, a hinged latitude silver arm and a hinged hour-ring silver segment.

The compass is equipped with a system to adjust the magnetic declination. The plate bears the name and latitude of four British and one Irish cities, whence the back of the compass shows 12 continental cities, elegantly arranged as a rosewind. The monogram .E.C. stands for « Edmund Culpeper » and the case has been conceived for easy seizing of the instrument.

Dimensions : 4,7 cm x 4,7 cm
