A Louis XVI mahogany armchairs attributed to Henri Jacob

Elegant pair of armchairs Etruscan attributed to Henri Jacob in mahogany veneer and solid mahogany from Cuba molded carved and varnished from the last quarter of the eighteenth century. Armchairs with rectangular plat backs, top wrapped, flat armrests with rosettes, frustoconical armrests, balustrade front legs. Legs and armrests are connected in each other by a tapered connecting die decorated with a rosette. The posterior saber legs extend in the arch of the backrest in Etruscan style. It is worth noting the great care given to the connecting elements of impeccable quality. During the last years of the reign of Louis XVI, an innovative trend borrowed from the antique models of Thomas Chippendale arrived in Paris under the influence of George Jacob; which will revolutionize taste by taking advantage of the massive mahogany while retaining the character and tradition of the Louis XVI siege. The general structure preserves the canons of the Louis XVI decorative arts embellished with a new art of living inspired by the orders of the painter David, who loves Greek models. The pair we propose is a perfect example. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this very beautiful series of seats attributed to Henri Jacob, Parisian work of the last quarter of the 18th century around 1790-1795. Henri Jacob, received master on 29 September 1779. Our series is similar to that of Sothebys: furniture, sculpture and art objects Paris lot 144 on 9 November 2012.
