Neogothic carmelite water flask in opaline-bronze mounted Circa 1820-1830

Crystal decanter with blue and white overlay used for serving Carmelite Water, a floral-based liqueur. The decanter, with its spiraling, pointed stopper is embellished with twisting and intertwining patterns. It nestles into a patinated, Neo-Gothic openwork base featuring domed arches, garlands of flowers, and lobed patterns. The bottom of the base is ringed by a gilt bronze, laurel-leaf frieze, which rests on a rectangular pedestal in patinated bronze adorned with cathedral arcades.
A return to the styles of the Middle Ages came with the development of Romanticism. This neogothic style impacted all of the arts, as can be seen in literature with The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo and La Tour de Nestle by Alexandre Dumas. In France around 1820, the Duchess of Berry was the instigator of the Cathedral Style.

Dim: W: 2,8 in – D: 2,8in – H: 12,6 in.

Period: French Restauration. Circa 1820-1830.
