Italian marble fountain attributed to Giovanni Battista Lombardi

Fountain carved in white carrara marble showing a large shell "Giant Clam Shell" supported by a child satyr and a putto.
Italy, nineteenth century, circa 1860.Giovanni Battista Lombardi (1823-1880).

Born in Rezzato, Italy, he moved to Rome in the mid-19th century to study at the academy. He then set up his own studio. He was well known for the finesse of his marble work.
His works can be seen in various museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum in NY.
