Louis XVI frame (150 cm by 122 cm)
The story :
The king of "Nineveh" sent his general Holofernes to wage war against Israel. Presented like a bloodthirsty tyrant with an irresistible advance, the latter finally besieged the small town of Béthulie. The inhabitants are desperate when Judith imagines a plan. She goes down at night to the enemy camp and seduces Holofernes. Once the latter is completely drunk, Judith takes advantage of his sleep to assassinate him and returns to Bethulie bringing back the head of the general. On seeing that their leader died shamefully, the enemies renounced their attack and returned home.
