Rest of the Holy Family during the escape to Egypt
Dimensions: 32 cm by 28 cm.
carved antique wooden frame and gold 43 cm by 41 cm.
This beautiful Italian painting executed at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth century, represents the rest of the holy family in a green landscape.
"Shortly after the birth of the child Jesus, the Holy Family made a stop in their journey from Judea to Egypt to escape King Herod slays the children under two years (Massacre of the Innocents) wanting to eliminate and the future "king of the Jews", having an angel warned Joseph in a dream. They will return seven years later, warned also by the angel of the death of Herod. "
This, of course, has been treated many times by the old masters. But here, the painting that I propose is particularly refined! The composition, delicate color palette, the modeling of beautiful faces and beautiful frame period gilt wood, form a set of high quality!
