Our opinion:

Only for processions dedicated to various saints, such lanterns were kept in the religious brotherhoods, churches, parishes but also in the great palaces of the lagoon city.
By the light of small candles lit by skylights lanterns is all a golden procession and lights parading in a well defined path.
Each neighborhood has its own brotherhood, it's a real rivalry that drove artisans to give the best of themselves.
If the Catholic fervor was present in all the cities of the kingdom, Venice thanks to its wealth attracted the best craftsmen, gold embroidery son, Murano glass, incense colored the East ... the city of processions.

Extremely rare these days on the market and in perfect condition our lanterns can arise simply maintained by kissing against a wall or in their stone bases, the way of interior lamps.
