Tsar Alexander at Elysee Palace after Waterloo, historical miniature c.1814

Oil on canvas, fixed under glass "fixé sous verre"
signed by Dufrenne on the reverse:
« Dufrenne peintre/ rue des Martyrs / N° 44 f.b.g. Montmartre ».
Circa 1814-1815.

Rare view of Elysée Palace, private residence of Emperor Napoléon in Paris, at the time it was occupied by tsar Alexander, visible on the forefront (H. 0,7 cm), in the gardens.
Napoleon came back to this palace (now residence of the French Head of State), in 1815, and signed there his resignation as well as the nomination of his son as Napoléon II.
Dufrenne who signed on the reverse this miniature is probably identical to the painter and restorer "Dufresne" active in Paris 1810-1816 and Dufrenne, restorer active in Turin in 1815.
