Rare pair of Louis XV Candlesticks after Meissonnier

Exceptional pair of Louis XV ormolu Candlesticks, after Meissonnier.

Each with an asymmetrical C-scroll cast shaft with a rockwork ornamentation, with foliate nozzle and drip-pans, above a serpentine-shaped base.

Circa 1735-1740

Height 10 1/2 in.
Depth 6 1/4 in.

Note
The design of our candlesticks is directly inspired by the one from Meissonnier and engraved by Huquier, which was published in "Le Livre de chandeliers de sculpture en argent" (plates 73 and 74).

They are really close to the pair stored at the Wallace Collection in London and also remind, by the naturalist ornamental vocabulary, to the ones ordered in 1729 for the Dauphin's birth.
