The 18th century saw the development of specific seats for each use and the chaises voyeuses reflect the popularity among the society of that time for gaming. Such chairs were placed in the gaming rooms or billiard rooms and allowed people to take part in the games comfortably kneeled with the arms resting on the padded armrest.
