Large Oak Statue Of Holy Bishop, Early Eighteenth Century

Large oak statue of a saint bishop blessing. The massive presence due to its width, and the head bent forward learns us about the function of this large statue, which was placed in height and was certainly part of a large altarpiece. Liturgical vestments show heavy drapes, suggesting a moderate baroque spirit. The borders are decorated with beautiful scrollwork friezes. The episcopal crosier head is beautifully worked in the rococo taste, confirming its creation in the first half of the eighteenth century. Excellent conservation. Some fingers are missing and others replaced. In consequence, the crosier does no longer stand alone. Composition: Carved oak, lacks, some restorations
Origin: South Germany or Southern Netherlands
Provenance: France - Art Market
Period: First half of the eighteenth century
Dimensions: H. : 1.12 m. - Width: approx. 70 cm (with the crosier) - Depth: approx. 35 cm (with the crosier)
