A transition end-cut marquetry drop-front secretaire

CIRCA 1765 - STAMPED BOUDIN (Maître in 1761)
The canted brèche d’Alep marble top, above a frieze-drawer and fall front enclosing a shelf above one pigeon-hole and four short drawers, above a gilt-tooled brown leather-lined surface and two doors, enclosing a shelf above a divided shelf, flanked by veneered canted angles, the sides similarly-decorated as the front with floral sprays marquetry, on cabriole legs.

Bois de bout or end-cut marquetry use the grain of the wood to create effect, such as the movement of a lead or petal. This is applied to a quarter-cut background of a different shade, such as bois de satiné (light mahogany) or bois de rose (tulipwood), producing a lively and stylised impression.
