Our opinion:

This console by the quality of its sculpture, its rich ornamentation and a top high quality multicolored marble is a perfect example of finest regency style fashionable in Paris until 1730.
The decorative plant and human expansion combined with a symmetry and perfect balance perfectly characterize one of the most popular French styles.

This console is to bring drawings of the ornamentalist Nicolas Pineau (1684-1754) this in his book "New Purposes Feet tables and vases and consoles" published in 1730 by Mariette in Paris.
Undergoing the inevitable influences of Jean Berain the regency he will become the greatest inventor and master of "the rock" in the reign of Louis XV.
For a console "garlanded busts to" see similar sales Christies Paris of June 27, 2007 Lot 107.

The marble Campan is a great mix of the finest French marbles, it sports shades of pink, gray, purple, and green from light to dark, all with white veins.
The quarry is located at a place called Espiadet Payolles on the plateau, in the town of Sainte-Marie-de-Campan Hautes-Pyrenees.
In 1692, it was decreed "Career Royal" to provide only the finest achievements of Louis XIV.
The quarry is now closed.

All these elements lead us to think that the sponsor of this console was a very prestigious place.
