Offered by Emmanuel Redon Silver Fine Art
Silverware and Silversmith of the 19th and 20th centuries
An elegant pair of ewers, crafted from blown and cut crystal with twisted ribs, mounted in rich, finely chased solid silver. The mounts feature a decoration of foliate scrolls, floral garlands, and oval medallions framed by Rococo motifs.
The hinged lids are surmounted by sculpted fruit seeds; the sinuous handles have a graceful and balanced line. The feet are adorned with a delicate motif of acanthus leaves and palmettes, typical of the Neo-Louis XV style of the late 19th century.
Excellent condition — crystal clear, without cracks or chips, finely chased silver with a beautiful original patina.
This type of ewer exemplifies the refinement of tableware during the Third Republic, where French silversmiths—following in the footsteps of Froment-Meurice, Odiot, and Cardeilhac—combined the transparency of crystal with the decorative richness of sterling silver.
