Identified among the paintings found in Nicolas-René Jollain's studio after his death: "No. 14, The Cave of Hercules, oil painting on canvas, 22 inches high by 26 inches wide", appraised at 16 francs by the painters Alexandre Pau de Saint-Martin and François Vergner (posthumous inventory of Nicolas-René Jollain, Paris, National Archives, central notary, unpublished document dated year XI of the French Revolutionary calendar).
